There are so many people that are gullible enough and believe what they are told or shown about pit bulls like in the movies, tv shows, and even the tabloids. It's not fair to pit bulls or any other dog that they try to make look mean. If you think about it, if this were with people they would consider it racist maybe. It's the same thing with dogs, you're just singling them out mainly cause of what you see in tv, or even in the movies. They're dogs, all they really want from us is love, attention, and to be taken care of. They show people a lot of these qualities, they just need a chance.
Some Myths and Facts about Pitbulls
- Pit bulls have locking jaws. That's not true at all, they just have extremely strong jaws. They had to, when people would have train bull dogs to fight against a bull, and they would grab a hold of their nose and they wouldn't let go until the bull would stop struggling.
- They can hold on with their front teeth while chewing with their back teeth. It can't happen because their jaw structure is the same as any other type of dog, and other breeds aren't able to do that, so how are pit bulls any different?
- Pit bulls are "vicious" or born "mean." False, because not all of them are. It all depends on how you bring them up, how well you treat them, and its in their genes. There are plenty of pit bulls that have never bitten or shown any aggression towards people.
- Pit bulls have more jaw strength per square inch than any other breed. There isn't a way to tell, you could test the psi jaw strength, but there is no way of telling the actual strength because you test it, it most likely wouldn't be the full strength.
- Pit bulls that are aggressive towards other animals are most likely aggressive towards people. That's also false. If that was the case, just about every dog wouldn't be able to be trusted. Basically, if you believe this myth you're singling out pit bulls because other dogs are aggressive towards other animals.
- Pit bulls attack more people than any other dog. This is far from true. The more popular breeds and mixes are most likely to attack a person than a pit bull. You can actually check the statistics at http://www.atts.org/statistics.html .
- The only people who own pit bulls are criminals and they're only good for pit fighting. Not at all, because a lot of high class and business people own them too, and as hard as it is to believe, pit bulls are great family pets.
- Pit bulls with red or blue noses are worth more than the ones with just black noses. It doesn't matter what color the nose is they're still pit bulls.
